My yoga journey had an unconventional start about six years ago when I attended my first class with a close friend. At the time, my only goal was to keep pace with the room and simply make it through the class. Looking back now, I realize the only judgment in that room was coming from within myself.

I continued practicing for a while but eventually drifted away from yoga. Then life did what life doesβ€”it challenged me. I found myself walking into Sumits, not knowing what to expect, and quietly claimed a spot in the back row. I left that first class feeling better, but I was still judging myself.

As I continued to return, something began to change. Looking back on that version of myself only strengthens my appreciation for the instructors at Sumits. With every warm greeting and every cue, they created an environment where I slowly became comfortable with where I was in my own journey. I learned that the flow is always there when you need it, and on the days when it isn't, the energy of the room is there to support you. Sometimes the greatest part of the practice is simply being on your mat, quieting your mind and slowing your breath.

For those reasons, I will forever be grateful for the path that brought me to where I am today and for the growth that still lies ahead. Yoga has given me the tools to quiet my racing mind at the end of a long day and to give myself grace when I need it most.
