Marty & Beeler

When my daughter, Beeler, said, “Mom, let’s go to a hot yoga class”, two thoughts came to my mind when I answered “Sure.” First, I thought this will NEVER last for ME; and second, I will NEVER fit in. I only agreed to try out a class because I knew Beeler wanted to try hot yoga. Beeler had been practicing yoga at home from YouTube videos and seemed to enjoy herself. I had even joined her ONCE and really struggled. I knew I would not be able to accomplish the “moves” in a hot studio. Boy, was I wrong! After our first class, we both became hooked and decided to come back for more! Beeler and I both have been attending classes for about 6 months. We are both working to improve our own practice and enjoy discussing yoga at home. We continue to learn from each other. We enjoy being able to participate in a program together, geared for all levels and ages, with the sense of being side by side, while not necessarily having our mats next to each other. Yoga has allowed us to build and nourish a unique mother/daughter bond.

Beeler and I attend the 5:45 am class because this time works best for our schedules. We agree Yoga is both mentally relaxing while physically demanding. Being able to spend our first hour of the morning concentrating on our breaths, clearing our minds and pushing our bodies to “our edge” for THAT day is cleansing and refreshing, and provides the right mindset for the challenges of the day. Leaving “it” all on the mat is the most rewarding accomplishment! Yoga has allowed us to walk out of the studio to face our work and school schedules with a positive attitude for each day.
