Hello!  I am delighted to share my Sumits yoga experience with the friends I see in class and possibly folks who have never tried hot yoga.  I have done traditional yoga, but would not say I truly “practiced.”   It had not resonated with me to the point of bringing me back to the mat on a regular basis.  At 47 years of age, my body and mind are now in a very different place.  Since October of 2016, thanks to an injury/wake- up call, I have been on a mission to transform my physical body.  I have made significant and lasting nutritional changes and become physically stronger through strength training and walking, followed by running.  In January of this year, I decided to give hot yoga a try and I was instantly hooked.  Yes, it was difficult and no, I couldn’t do all the poses or hang in for all 80 minutes.  But the heat was unlike anything I had experienced before.  It quiets my mind and improves my concentration and flexibility.  It was the missing piece; the connection between my physical body and my thoughts and emotions.

While the journey continues, I am over fifty pounds lighter, seriously stronger, and with better flexibility and balance than I had last fall.  My joints remind me that I am not 20 something, but I know I am physically healthier than at any other time in my adult life.  Coming to my mat at Sumits provides the essential time that I need to check in with my body and mind.  It challenges me physically and mentally, and leaves me with enormous gratitude for where my body and mind are that day.  Finally, I believe it is this balance that leads to feeling spiritually recharged, and that is what is so addicting!  I look forward to my continued journey and am truly thankful for all the folks at Sumits, who greet, teach, and guide me in this practice. Namaste.
