My yoga journey began a couple months ago as I neared the end of another year of graduate school. Being present in the thick of a doctoral program is tough. You hold so many roles that can leave you feeling drained. I was craving some balance and wellness in my life. As a teacher and counselor, I frequently encourage clients and students to be mindful, to practice self-compassion, and to always engage in self-care. When I came to realize I rarely did any of these things for myself, I decided something had to change. After all, you can’t pour from an empty cup right? And if I want to continue to pour from that cup and connect with others in my life I have to do something that gives back to myself mentally and physically.
